Greetings my friends, My name is MATAKNGA, the Spiritual Leader of the Chamori People of Guahan, Luta, Tinian, Saipan, Agrihan and Pagan.  I am addressing you from the Aloha State of Hawaii.

I come before you with mixed emotions to lay charges against my own country, the United States of America for the crime of ETHNIC CLEANSING.  These are Serious Charges, no doubt,  that I intend to outline and discuss.

In 1898, Naval Governor Richard O’Leary changed our Island’s name from GUAHAN to GUAM. This simple act initiated the slow and painful annihilation of our IDENTITY and our Race. The U.S. Congress perpetuated this crime by fomenting the name of GUAM into our Organic Act (enabling legislation and our Constitution) in 1950.

We are not seeking reparations, wrongful damages or personal injury compensations. What we want is our NAME, our Sacred IDENTITY; our DIGNITY and our HONOR. After 300 years of Spanish Atrocities and a hundred years of Ethnic cleansing and painful degradation, it is time for my People to become ONE again; it is time for my People to find solace and healing; it is time for my people to forge ahead and live our destiny as productive members of the American family. I am personally urging my fellow Americans to help us Correct this Injustice. Please join US and stop the Ethnic Cleansing of my people. Call your Representatives in Congress and urge them to amend the Organic Act of Guam. Please advise them to reaffirm our sacred Identity as the CHAMORI PEOPLE of the islands.
